As part of the European cooperation project Turning the Tide and supported by the River // Cities Network, filmmaker Hans Hofer explored the relationship between water, landscape and environmental perception through his film project See Grund. Developed in and around Seestadt Aspern, the work connected local observations with wider European discussions about climate change, sustainability and the future of water in urban environments.
Through a documentary approach, Hofer examined how water shapes both physical landscapes and human experiences. Combining visual storytelling with reflections on environmental transformation, the project invited audiences to consider the often-overlooked connections between everyday life and ecological systems. The resulting film became both an artistic work and a platform for discussion about the role of water in contemporary society.
Presented as part of the Reflection of Water programme, See Grund demonstrated how film can contribute to environmental awareness by making complex challenges tangible and accessible. The project highlighted the power of storytelling to connect local realities with broader conversations about resilience, sustainability and the future of European cities.
