As part of the European cooperation project Turning the Tide and supported by the River // Cities Network, artists Reinhold Zisser and Sonya Darrow developed Watersculptures, a collaborative project exploring water as both a physical resource and a cultural phenomenon. Their work connected local experiences in Vienna with wider European discussions about sustainability, environmental change and the future of communities living with water.
Through artistic experimentation, workshops and public engagement, the project invited participants to reflect on how water shapes landscapes, identities and everyday life. By making environmental processes visible through creative practice, the artists encouraged audiences to consider the relationship between ecological systems and human activity from new perspectives.
Presented as part of the Reflection of Water programme in Seestadt Aspern, Watersculptures demonstrated how art can foster dialogue between communities, environmental awareness and scientific understanding. The project highlighted the role of creativity in helping people engage with complex questions about climate change and sustainable futures.
